:-( (-:

There is some music I listen to that, when coupled with certain kinds of thoughts , just makes me swell up and tear.

These certain kinds of thoughts when had in conjunction with Steve Reich's Eight Lines, Arvo Part's Fur Alina, Spiegel Im Spiegel, Beautus, Summa, Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten, the first movement of Prokofiev's Sonata for Violin and Piano in f-minor, the third movement of his 5th symphony, J. S. Bach's Contrapunctus 14 from Die Kunst der Fuge, Prelude and Fugue in a-minor BWV543 for organ, the first movement of Edgar Meyer's Quintet for string quartet and double bass, Reusner's Lute suite in a-minor (I know he has a number of them in this key), Keith Jarrett's Spheres for organ, one of the solos from from his live Bremen concerts as well as his first piece from each of the two Book of Ways for clavichord, Glass' Satyagraha arranged for organ and Etude for solo piano #9 from Piano Etudes Vol.1 , Robert de Visee's La Muzette en Rondeau from Pieces en Ut Majeur and Les Bergeries de Mr. Couperin for lute, the Santus movement from DuFay's Missa Sancti Anthonii de Padua, Ennemond Gaultier's Tombeau de Mezangeau for lute, to name a few, often bring me to tears. It doesn't mean that I necessarily think these pieces are better than others that do not bring me to tears, just that something about these ones do. Alot of it has to do with affectation, and some of it has to do with harmony (of course, I'm not entirely seperating them here).
